Welcome! “Mapping the Freedom Summer” is a digital inquiry into the social, political, and intellectual impact of the 1964 Freedom Summer. At the moment, this is a prototype website undergoing updates and changes. The long-term goal of  “Mapping the Freedom Summer” is to offer scholars, activists, and students a digital space to examine, make interpretations, and draw out lessons from the 1964 Freedom Summer. As a complimentary website to the SNCC Digital Gateway at Duke University, the Civil Rights Movement Veterans at Tougaloo College, and the Freedom Summer Digital Collection at the Wisconsin Historical Society, “Mapping the Freedom Summer” seeks to contribute to ongoing conversations about democracy, student activism, citizenship, and contemporary social movements.
